Step back in time with a captivating new exhibition at the Yadkin Cultural Arts Center, on display September 3 through October 30, 2026. An opening reception will be held September 3 from 5–7 p.m., with refreshments served and free admission for all. This unique collection of “watercolors” by master craftsman Rick Jones is paired with storyboards featuring the “words” of artist and writer Marilyn Ingram, bringing to life a time when there were no cameras, cell phones, or even typewriters. Through the eyes of artists and field correspondents who painted, drew, and recorded journals, the exhibition explores historic scenes at the Shallow Ford and nearby battle area, Moravian settlements along the Great Wagon Road, and the annual commemoration in Huntsville, NC. The accompanying stories are researched through historical sources including the “Records of the Moravians” and the NC State Archives. Presented in partnership with the Lewisville Area Arts Council and supported by the America 250 NC Community Grant, the exhibit offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. A second celebration will be held Friday, October 9, from 5–7 p.m., in honor of the 246th Commemoration Weekend of this historic event.
