Growing a Cool-Season Garden

Join NC Cooperative Extension-Yadkin County for a free, hands-on workshop on Friday, September 18, from 9–11 a.m., and learn how to grow a thriving cool-season garden! Autumn and late winter are some of the best times to garden in North Carolina, as cool-weather crops benefit from milder temperatures, fewer pests, and less heat stress while providing fresh produce throughout the cooler months. Participants will learn what to plant, including spinach, kale, broccoli, radishes, carrots, and garlic; when to plant by using local frost dates and planting schedules; and how to protect crops with simple row covers and cold-frame techniques to extend the harvest. The workshop will also cover how to access free seed packets through your local library’s Seed Library. NC Cooperative Extension is an equal opportunity provider.
